Pioneer Museum

We decided to go to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneer Museum. We had never been and thought it was a great museum. You aren't supposed to take pictures, but they had the No Picture signs in places that you couldn't actually see them. So, Pete and dad had already taken a bunch of pics before a worker told us not to take pictures. Oops! Oh well, at least we now have some great photos! At the museum they had a picture of Charles C. Rich and all his wives. Pete is a three great grandson of his. He was an apostle. There was also a picture of one of my dad's relatives. It really was quite a fascinating place.

Air Force Museum

Kenyon is obsessed with the air force museum in Layton. He thinks it is so much fun and wants to go every summer. Since it is free and close we usually go. I got very few pics of it this time, but it was fun for the kids as always. The older boys all made rockets and were able to shoot them off outside. They thought it was great!

Stevie's Birthday!

We were so excited to be able to be in Utah for my nephew, Steven's, birthday. Debbie had a party for him at my mom's. She had them play a fun game where they rolled dice and the unwrapped as much candy as they could from a roll of packing tape. They had a great time playing the game and then Stevie opened his presents. Then we got cake and ice cream. Debbie made a cute light saber cake. Since we rarely get to celebrate cousins birthdays, it was fun to be able to celebrate Stevie's.

Cherry Hill

On July 13th, we headed to Utah, so we would be there in time for the Phelon family reunion at Cherry Hill on July 14th. I was SO happy the reunion was at Cherry Hill because my mom and dad live only five minutes away from there. So, we were able to crash on Friday night at mom's and dad's and sleep in before we had to go to Cherry Hill. We went right when they opened and ran into Pete's niece Liz right away. She was able to help us buy our tickets and show us where we would be hanging out for the day. Jaron and Shaylee loved the Pirate ship boat and slide, they stayed there for a good hour before we got them to leave the boat to try the lazy river. Jaron had a melt down when we were eating snacks because he didn't have his deedee (blanket) and I could not get him to calm down. I think he was exhausted from the trip the day before and all the excitement leading up to it. So, since my parents are conveniently close we just took him to Grandma and Grandpa's and Pete put him down for a nap. He slept for FIVE hours! Like I said, the poor boy was tired.

We had a great time at Cherry Hill with Pete's family. It was so fun and relaxing. I enjoyed visiting with my mother in law, sisters in law, and nieces. It had been a long time since I had seen some of them and I was reminded how much I enjoy all these ladies. It was especially a treat to visit with Pete's sister Mary Anne, who I hadn't seen in four years and his niece Stephanie (doesn't she have a good name?) who I hadn't seen in probably four or five years. The kids loved running around and going on all the slides with their cousins.

At dinner time, we had a big family dinner with pulled pork sandwiches and lots of yummy sides and desserts. It was quite the spread and we were all so hungry. We had mom and dad bring Jaron back after dinner, so he could hang out for the last few hours. He had a great time eating dinner with Grandma and Grandpa at McD's. He even got a Happy meal and he was so excited.

It was a great family reunion and a wonderful way to start our vacation in Utah. Paul and Inger did a great job putting it all together.

It's Independence Day!!!!!

Since we weren't able to go to Utah for the Fourth of July, Pete and I decided to find a parade in our area. We had to go about 20 mins north to Ridgefield to find one, but we found it and staked out a good spot. It was a fun parade and the kids really enjoyed it. We were at the end of the parade route so a lot of the candy was gone, but the kids still got a good amount and had a great time. After the parade we headed to the mall and shopped for a swim suit for Jaron, and then we went to Taco Bell for lunch. When we got home we enjoyed some time together and then had a BBQ with our friends, the Brock's and ate hamburgers and hot dogs. Once it got dark we headed outside and watched the craziness that is our neighborhood during fireworks time. Because no fireworks are illegal here, people go crazy and buy hundreds of dollars worth of fireworks. It sounds like a war zone, but it is fun to watch all the beautiful colors in the sky. We set off a few of our own fireworks when it just started getting dark and then we just sat back and enjoyed the show. That is one thing about the Fourth here that is better than the Fourth in Utah, the fireworks.
