Our Weekend at the Yurts.

On Presidents weekend, February 15-16th, we decided to got to the Coast with our friends the Kellis's. We left Sunday after church and met them at Fort Steven's in Oregon. We settled into our yurt and then took off to see the sites in Astoria. We went to the Astoria column, which was closed for renovation, so we were unable to go to the top of it, but it is up on a hill and it still gives you a great view of Astoria, the Columbia River, and Washington on the other side. It is a beautiful sight. Then we went to see the" Goonies" house and the school from "Kindergarten cop". By this time it was getting dark so we headed back down to the yurts.

We roasted hot dogs and sausages over the fire for dinner. It was so yummy! There's nothing like the taste of a true roasted hot dog. We had S'mores for desert and the kids had such a great time roasting marshmallows. It was SO cold and our fire felt so nice and cosy. After we got everything cleaned up, we had some visitors at our camp. Raccoons. We had three big, fat raccoons scrounging for food. Pete was positive they wouldn't be able to get into our coolers, so he left those outside while he took Kenyon to the bathroom. I was in the yurt getting the kids ready for bed when I heard a lot of noise and rustling outside the door. I knew that those stinkin' little critters were getting into our coolers! I am terrified of wild animals and was not going to go out there and scare them off! I called Pete and told him and sure enough when he got back the little coolers lid was open and the leftover sausages gone! Pete thought it was all pretty funny. Needless to say we put the coolers in the car for the night.

What a fun camp fire

The next day we got up and had a yummy breakfast of pancakes, eggs and bacon. Then we headed to the Peter Iredale beach. It is such a pretty beach, but it was just too cold to stay out very long. We then headed to Cannon Beach. We had a picnic lunch on the beach and the kids had a great time running up and down a big sand hill. On our way home we stopped at the Tillamook Cheese Factory to get cheese samples and some yummy icecream. We love the Tillamook Cheese Factory. It's one of our favorite places to go.






It was such a fun weekend and I can't wait to do it again when it's a little warmer! :)

Kenyon's Field Trip

On February 11th, I went with Kenyon's class to downtown Portland to see the play "Click, Clack, Moo... Cows That Type". It was a cute production, but boy did I have a hard time keeping my eyes open in that dark room. After riding the bus with 40 screaming and jumping off the wall kids, the quiet dark of the theater was so nice my poor little eyes just kept closing. I just couldn't keep them open.


I like that they have the kids go to the theater. It was fun for them. They were all so excited. I was in charge of four kids... Kenyon, Bryson, Emma and ? oops, I can't remember the other little girls name. I guess I'm getting old. I love going on the field trips and being involved with the kids and of course my kids are always so excited to have me come.

Where is Brandon?!

Last Wednesday night, Pete came home from playing basketball and went to check on the boys before we went to bed. He comes out of their room and says, "Where is Brandon?". In his room of course! Where else would he be at 11:00 PM? Nope, not in his bed. Huh? How weird is that? Where is he? Pete says, "I can see Kenyon's feet sticking out from under his bed, so I know he's there, but I can't see Brandon anywhere." He goes searching downstairs while I look in the toy room and closets and other places an eight year old may decide to curl up and go to sleep. Finally, I look under Kenyon's bed where Kenyon is and BINGO! there's Brandon sound asleep under Kenyon's bed. Unlike Kenyon you couldn't seem him from just looking at the bed. You actually had to get down and look all the way under.



Wow! Doesn't this look comfortable? I'm not quite sure what they were thinking, but when Brandon got up that morning, the first thing he said to me was, "Mom, I had the best nights sleep ever! Underneath Kenyon's bed is so comfortable!" Okay, whatever, to each his own. I personally would much rather sleep on the bed, but I'm not an eight year old boy either!

My Fashionista!

She's three, but she thinks she's Stacy London in "What Not to Wear". Shaylee thinks she knows all about fashion. Or at least what mommy should wear.

Last Monday, when I was getting ready to go over to my friend, Rebecca's house. My daughter came in the bathroom and started going through my closet. She says, "Mommy, you can wear this or this or this or this...." (This is what I say to her on school mornings or when I care about what she is wearing). So, I pointed to the clothes I had laid out on the tub and said, "I'm wearing those clothes today". She comes over and looks at the shirt, lifts it up, looks at the pants, lifts it up and looks at the sweater. After she looks at it all, she sighs and looks at me and says, "No mommy, these clothes are not good. You're not wearing those." What?! And who are you? Did we switch roles here? Am I the child and you the mother? Yes, she shocked me. I said, "Shaylee, Mommy is wearing those clothes today." She sighs again and says, "Fine, but tomorrow you will wear this or this or this...". Okay, Shay, I got it. Thanks for your help Shaylee London!

Okay, it's not my favorite outfit, or my most stylish, but I just wanted comfort for a playdate. I wasn't trying to be fashionable.

I just can't believe that Shaylee is three and acting like she's thirteen! What am I going to do in ten years when she is thirteen. HELP!!!!!
