It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

Okay, it's a lot of pumpkins, Phelon kids! We went to the pumpkin patch on Monday, October 19. We always go to Joe's Place because it's just down the road and it's such a cute little pumpkin patch. We love to go on the hay ride and eat our yummy apple and then pick out the best pumpkins around. It's always a lot of fun. This year was no different, the kids enjoyed every moment and had a hard time deciding which pumpkin was THE pumpkin. Decisions finally made we took the pumpkins to be weighed and paid for then we were home ward bound. Now we just have to carve the pumpkins!

Shay's Open House

Last Monday, October 19th, I went to Shaylee's open house at her school. This is her second year at Children's World of Music and she loves it! She has Miss Michelle again as her teacher and she is having a great year. They did a bit of singing and dancing and then they showed us how they can hopscotch. I went to Shaylee's classroom and watch what they did during their day at school. It was fun to see Shaylee with all her sweet little friends.

UPDATE!!!

So, after three weeks of hearing Jaron scream every time he got in the tub. After trying EVERYTHING I could think of to get him to not be scared of a spider falling in the tub. I think we may have solved the problem. WOOT! WOOT!

Pete and I got many suggestions from all our friends about what we should do. We tried showering him with Pete, spraying spider "spray", bubbles, balls in the tub, Elmo toys, Kenyon and Shaylee bathing with him... Every bath time we tried something different. The one thing I didn't want to try and really resisted was giving him a popsicle in the tub. I resisted and resisted until finally I said FINE! I'll try anything at this point. I was afraid of the mess it would make and if he would dip it in the dirty water. It just wasn't something I wanted to start, but... IT WORKED!!!! Amazing! The first time I gave it to him he still screamed through the whole bath, so I finally gave it to Shay to eat. She put it down on the ledge right in front of him when she went to play with some toys. I went to grab a towel and all of the sudden the screaming stopped. I rush into the bathroom and there he is just happy as a lark slurping on the popsicle. Oh my gosh! I thought well, let's if it works the next time. Still some crying about getting in, but once the popsicle was in hand he was happy again. No more resistance from me. As long as he is happy and not screaming he can have a popsicle! YEA!!!!!

Happy again!

He doesn't mind sharing with sissy!

Thank you Stacey and Julie for this suggestion. We are happy again at bath time in this house!

Naughty, Naughty Spider!

Remember this picture? Yep, that's how much my baby loved to take a bath. He got in fully PJed! I used to say, "Jaron, bath time!" and he would jump for joy clapping with excitement.

Well now because of this dang thing! Yes, a little black spider that fell in the tub when he and Shay were taking a bath a couple of weeks ago...

... he will no longer get in the tub without kicking and screaming! And I mean hysterical, terrified, I'm gonna die type of screaming! He's like a little leach grabbing on to me with both arms and legs with all his might. I have to peal him off of me to put him in the tub and then he screams the whole time I'm washing him. He yells "Towel, towel, towel..." over and over again, until I get him out and wrap him in his towel and then he just snuggles with me like his been through the most traumatic thing a little guy could ever go through, you know a bath!

When the spider thing happened and he and Shay jumped out of the tub so fast screaming hysterically, I thought it was kind of funny. Just how fast they jumped out considering Jaron has never gotten out of the tub by himself before (he's not very adventurous). I thought it was just a little funny, but I never thought it would scar Jaron the way it did. I thought he would forget about it, but no. It doesn't matter what tub I put him in he goes bananas!

AHHHHHHH! I am at my wit's end!!! I do NOT know how to get him over this. It's been two weeks and it hasn't gotten any better. I feel horrible every time I give him a bath, but a two year old must bathe! Help! What do I do?

Oregon Coast

For Pete's birthday, he wanted to go to the coast as a family. Shaylee was sick the weekend of his birthday, so we decided to go on Monday instead. It would be one last getaway as a family before school started again. We went to a new beach this time it was called Oswald West state park. It has a pretty long walk to it, but it was really beautiful. It is where all the surfers go and we had a great time watching all of them. We had a picnic lunch and then just hung out on the beautiful beach. On our way out we decided to go on a "short" hike. Ha ha! Yeah right! The hike was much longer than we thought. It was supposed to end at a waterfall, but we never made it that far. The kids didn't have the right shows to hike and so after a mile we decided we'd better turn back so that noone hurt their ankles or anything. It was a beautiful area, though and we were glad we went on the hike even if we didn't make it to the falls.
You can see all the surfers out in the ocean.
They are all those little dots.

On our way home we of course knew that we had to stop at Tillamook. We can't be close by there and not stop at the cheese factory to get their yummy icecream. We also had to stop at the beef jerky outlet and get the yummy pepperoni sticks.

We had such a fun time. I love the Oregon coast. Even if it is windy and cold, it is so beautiful. And I love to smell the air near the ocean. It just smells so fresh and clean. What a great day!

Happy Birthday Pete!

Twelve days after Kenyon's birthday is Pete's, so we have a great time enjoying birthdays in August. Pete's birthday happened to fall on Back to School night, so we celebrated in between going to Back to School Night. He wanted to go to dinner with the whole family, so we all went to the Stardust Diner and enjoyed the yummy food there. We even got free deserts! (it pays to know the owners:) ) After eating out we went to meet the kids teachers and I helped out for a bit at the membership table. Then we headed home to open presents. We didn't do cake and icecream on his birthday night because we knew it would be crazy and I made him a cake to bring to work, so he already had cake that day.
Pete's German Chocolate cake he resquested

Instead we continued the celebration into Friday night and had cake and icecream then. For Pete's birthday he bought a telescope, so that he and the kids can enjoy going out together and looking at the beautiful night sky.

Sleeping while opening presents?!

Nope! He's awake!
