One last outing...

Before school starts!  On September 4, we headed out to our favorite place on the coast, Pacific City and Tillamook.  We first stopped at the Cheese factory and watched the making cheese then we ate some samples, Yum!  And of course we couldn't leave the factory without getting an ice cream cone full of yummy Tillamook ice cream.

Then we went on to Pacific City and drove out on the beach like we normally do, not noticing that no one else except four wheel drive vehicles were on the beach.  There was a reason for this, the sand was super soft and not packed down at all like it usually is when we go out there.  We got Stuck!  And I mean really stuck!  We had people trying to dig us out, pull us out, push us out and everyone gave up when the van's wheels just dug in deeper except Pete.  He was determined to dig us out, we had a nice couple who stayed and the husband got under the van with Pete to dig and the wife kept me company as I tried to keep the baby occupied.  She was so nice and really enjoyed talking to her.  She is from Australia and met her husband there when he was visiting.  She fell in love and came back with him to the states and married him.  I was so anxious about the van, it was nice to just chat with her and keep my mind off the van and Pete digging it out.  Well, after probably a half an hour of digging they finally got it out of the crater it was in.  Hallelujah!  I was so relieved!  So grateful to our super nice friends who helped us out.

The rest of the time we were able to relax and just enjoy being on the beach and enjoying the beautiful scenery.  The kids love to dig in the sand and play in the waves.  My boys always want to climb the huge sand dune.  I love the Northwest.

We found this lot up for sale on our way home and man if we had the money I would have bought it in a heartbeat!

First Day of School

September 5, was the first day of school.  This year Brandon is in Middle school in sixth grade, Kenyon is in fifth grade, Shaylee is in second grade and Jaron is in Kindergarten.  Kenyon's teachers are Mrs. Tendler and Mr. Nadal, Shaylee's are Mrs. McNutt and Mrs. Dana, and Jaron has Ms. Price.  Jaron's teacher has been all four of my kids' kindergarten teacher and I really like her, so I was very happy when he got her as a teacher.  This is the first year I didn't walk Brandon to school and it was very sad and hard for me to just let him walk off with his friends.  I did it, though and I lived through it.  This was a hard year for me having my oldest go to middle school and my baby boy go to kindergarten.  There were many tears from this mom, but I lived through it and my kids all had a great first day of school.  They came home to peanut butter cookies, their favorite.

Happy Birthday, Pete!

For Pete's birthday, he wanted to take the whole family to his favorite Middle Eastern restaurant, Nikolaus.  Most of the kids really liked it.  Jaron, Maycee and Kenyon all like hummus and we got a middle eastern pizza for the kids to eat.  It was yummy and a fun way to celebrate his birthday.  He had a donut cake and it was yummy.  Happy Birthday, Pete!

Our Miracle

As I said in the previous post we were invited to go out on the river with our friends on August 25th.  We have been out on their boat before and we really enjoy them and like to spend time with them.  It was a fun way to spend Pete's birthday weekend.

Everything was going smoothly on our boat ride.  Maycee was a little hard to deal with because she hated the life vest and she kept wanting to get out of the boat.  She believes that she is as big as her older siblings and if they are doing something then she can do it, too.  We decided to eat lunch and parked the boat a little ways out from the beach.  The year before we got out and ate our lunch on the beach and thinking that we were going to do this again, I stupidly took Maycee's vest off.  I'm really not sure what I was thinking because even if we had been on the beach she still should have had it on.  I guess I was thinking that we would be able to get her to take a little nap or something and that would be easier without the bulky vest.  Pete took her to the front of the boat to rock her to sleep, but she was restless and realizing that she wasn't going to sleep he let her down to wander around.  There were four adults in this boat and you would think one of us would have seen her wandering to the back of the boat, but we were all chatting and I was still thinking she was at the front of the boat and didn't see her come to the back.  The crazy thing is that she had to have come right past me to get to the back of the boat, but I just didn't see her.  Recreating what happened she must have wandered to the back and climbed onto the seat then climbed onto the dive deck and then thinking it was like stairs she must have lowered herself feet first into the water.  This water was to the top of my thighs deep, so it would have gone over her head.

Meanwhile I am in the boat with my back to the water eating lunch and talking to Tiff.  Pete and Dave are at the front of the boat, Shaylee and Natalie are on the back of the boat with their feet in the water facing the water.  The five boys are all in the tube eating their lunch and it is a little ways away from the boat in the water.  As I am talking to Tiffany, Natalie notices Maycee in the water and says to Shaylee, "Look, Maycee is swimming!"  Shaylee looks over and knowing that Maycee can't swim  screams, "Mom, Maycee!"  As I look over my shoulder I see the most horrible sight a mother could ever see... my baby floating in the water 15 feet or so away from the boat.  I screamed, "the baby!"  and launched myself out of the boat.  I ran as fast as I could in thigh deep water to where she was.  As I approached her I thought she was dead.  Aren't all babies that are floating in the water dead?  I looked down and I saw that she was on her back just rocking with the waves.  The waves were lapping a bit over her face, but not much.  I picked her up and she was crying, but she had no water in her lungs at all.   I told Pete it looked like she was being held there like you would hold a child that you were teaching how to back float.  Pete said," There were angels holding her up in the water".  When I told my mom the story, she said that it could have been Pete's dad holding her, he passed away many years ago when Pete was 25.  When she said that I just got chills knowing that yes of course it was her grandpa.  I know that Maycee's grandpa was there in that water holding her up .   It was not her time to go and he was there to save her.

This was truly a miracle.  By all rights, she should have sunk in that water and drowned.  I know without a shadow of a doubt that Maycee has more work to do on this earth and she was saved that day.  I also know that the fact that we started our trip out with a prayer to our Heavenly Father to keep us all safe on the boat allowed him to have someone there to save Maycee.  The Lord truly blesses those who show faith in Him.  I thank him every day for all the wonderful moments I get to share with my baby girl because she was saved that day.  I am a truly blessed mom.

Boating on the River

We are very lucky to have some wonderful friends here where we live and the R family is definitely one of those families that we feel very blessed to have as friends.  I have known Tiffany since we served in Young Woman's together and I have enjoyed being her friend ever since.  My three oldest kids all match up to her three kids in age.  Brandon and Hayden are three months apart in age, Alex and Kenyon are 11 months apart and Shaylee and Natalie are nine months apart in age.  Alex and Kenyon have been the best of friends since they were put in the same Kindergarten class.  They are a great family and we love spending time with them.

The R's invited us to go out on their boat the weekend of Pete's birthday and of course we jumped at the chance.  Pete knee boarded and wake boarded and the kids and I all rode on the tube.  We had a great time and really enjoyed visiting with the R's as we hung out for the day.  We did have a mishap during the trip, but I will save that story for it's own post.

Thank you, R's for a wonderful day!
